The Faded look…

I just came across Emma Watson’s new photoshoot in Teen Vogue, photographed by Norman Jean Roy….Wow! Really amazing images! Composition is great, and most of all I love the way he does his faded look.

I’ve noticed a lot of photographers trying to get this look nowadays. Honestly, they are not even close to the way Roy has it. So for anyone, trying to get this look, you should definitely take a look at Roy’s portfolio to get a better idea of how this faded look should really look. I’ve seen to many photos where the color just has too much blue or green in it. That’s great if you’re going for a dead look, but I doubt that’s the look clients are going for, especially when skin tones have been greatly altered to the point of making photo subjects look like zombies! Definitely not a great selling point!

If you’re going for the faded look, don’t just stick to default settings in Lightroom or Photoshop, take it the extra step and do some color balancing! Better yet, study color! Take a painting class, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to draw, you just need to get an understanding of color.
